According to Orlando Sentinel, Disney has filed a patent application involving drones. According to this patent application, Disney may use drones for one of the following 3 purposes:

    1. “To hold aloft a projection screen for a nighttime display. Such a display would utilize what Disney calls ‘flixels,’ which is an Imagineer word creation for ‘floating pixels’.”

    2. “To move and to position the flexible projection screens within the display air space… these multiple flexible projection screens, Disney says, would have little wind resistance and offer a surface for reflecting light.”

Both of these could be used either for lighting or displaying purposes. Moreover, as the editor of Orlando Sentinel notes,

“Both would be lightweight and flexible enough to move easily and be controlled from the ground…. [and] could be seen as creating a high-tech digital fireworks show overhead that would be safer and more controlled – and which would cost less than the nightly pyrotechnics that go off at the parks now, as well.”

3. Drones “would control the movements of the characters’ limbs.” Super-large puppets would be attached to these drones, so that the movements of these drones would cause the puppets to move. Imagine a huge Mickey Mouse attached to a few drones, waving to you from above. Imagined?

Disney loved its no-fly zone — until it wanted to fly its own drones

Florida pilots know the rule well — you better steer clear of Disney’s Magic Kingdom, or else. It has been a no-fly zone for over a decade – a luxury afforded to none of the other 400 theme parks in the United States, and a point of contention lingering over “The Happiest Place on Earth.”

But now Disney is asking the government for an exemption to the no-fly restrictions so that it can launch flocks of drones over Disney World and Disneyland, a move that has resurfaced frustrations and a debate in the aviation world over the merits of the no-fly zone.

Looks like Disney will get its way.  Don't fuck with the mouse!

Disney has filed a patent which is named the “Audience Interaction Projection System.” Keep in mind it is still a toy, and not a lightsaber capable of carving through steel.

Flixel drone tech

It describes using up to 50 flixels in a show, with a flight time duration of 5 minutes.

Although no specifics shows are named, Epcot is detailed in a diagram showing a flight path, which could possibly suggest the use of drones in a future Epcot nighttime show, or an enhancement to IllumiNations. It would also seem likely that all four Walt Disney World parks could make use of the technology, and with new shows on the horizon at the parks, now would be an ideal time to incorporate flixels into their design.

Disney is dizzy with the power of storytelling! Too bad fantasia weaves it spells to consume our dreams with greed and envy! Giving people airs and promoting propaganda that destroys the souls of all mankind.

Stories are how we think. They are how we make meaning of life. Call them schemes, scripts, cognitive maps, mental models, metaphors, or narratives. Stories are how we explain how things work, how we make decisions, how we justify our decisions, how we persuade others, how we understand our place in the world, create our identities, and define and teach social values.

Social values? What about the hidden values? The ones for profit that make Cruella Deville laugh.

Please don't leave your loved ones ashes in the Haunted Mansion. The vacuum drones are complaining about the dusty stench permeating their nostrils.
