Ah, a beautiful battle of thought. The medium must know itself in the unfolding of the poetic voice. Yes, Cato points the way up, but you are wrong in that he will stay where he is! After all, purgatory gives everyone redemption. Cato will move on, eventually! He has been forgiven his sin. For at this pathway to the mountain, Cato is urging Moral purification. He is saying to begin again...in forgiveness!

Appreciate what the good must be...

Love too much?
Love too little?
Love the wrong thing?

How do we measure?

What is the symbolic significance of Cato being the general guardian at the foot of the mountain?

I was thinking about the Roman virtues to look into this question. Because I figure Cato, being a Roman of strict values would have adhered to these virtues as a means to climb the mountain of vices ahead.

Corruption doesn't even begin to describe it. An infestation of cockroaches. Legions of them crawling around. Along with the flies, lizards, and rats they make a complete mess of the place. Not only affecting the church but all the others as well. This giant image of christ built up over millennia has made the false entity strong in the force. Using the best of CHRIST to sell us false redemption. Taking indulgences from its congregants in physical materials, mentally affecting them by dominating the educational structure, and especially starving them in the spiritual sense. Leading souls into buying quick desire for more cheap consumables filled with artificial manna.

Self reflection.

This can lead into a downward spiral if one only concentrates on the negative within.

Don't forget, everyone has their positive side too....

This also applies to the larger entities that hold power.
